How much does a beer can weigh?
In pounds
A standard beer can in the United States contains 12 fluid ounces of beer. Each ounce weighs 0.0625 pounds. Multiple that by 12 and your normal-sized, 12 oz aluminum beer can weighs about 0.78 pounds.
But you’re anything but standard. You’re larger than life. You go big or go home. And that means tallboys. These larger beers hold 16 fl oz. So how much do 16 oz cans of beer weigh? A full tallboy beer weighs 1 pound.
There are also some beer brands like to go even bigger. The Foster’s “Oil Can” for example comes in at 24 ounces. That would weigh 1.56 pounds. These are also good for bicep curls in between beers.
In kilograms
Are you more familiar with the metric system? No problem. Let’s see what the weight of a can of beer is in kilograms.
One fluid ounce of beer weighs 29.57 millileters (mL). And 29.57 mL equals 0.02957 kilograms. Multiply that by 12 and your standard 12 ounce can beer of weighs about 0.35 kilograms.
In grams
To convert the kilogram weight above to grams, you simply multiply it by 1,000 ( since 1kg = 1,000 grams). So the total weight of a can of beer would be about 350 grams.
How much does a 6-pack of beer cans weigh?
But let’s be real. Who buys just a single can of beer. Usually, we pick up a six-pack or more. Let’s take a look at what the weight of 6 beer cans would be in pounds, kilograms, and grams.
In pounds: A six-pack of beer cans weighs 4.68 pounds.
In kilograms: A six-pack of beer cans weighs about 2.1 kilograms.
In grams: A six-pack of beer cans weighs about 2,100 grams.
How much does a case of beer cans weigh?

In pounds: A case of beer cans weighs 18.72 pounds.
In kilograms: A case of beer cans weighs about 8.4 kilograms.
In grams: A case of beer cans weighs about 8,400 grams.

How much does an empty beer can weigh?
The average empty beer can weighs about 0.5 ounces, which works out to roughly 0.03125 pounds or 14 grams. So the empty cans themselves make up just a fraction of the overall weight.
How much does a bottle of beer weigh?
Glass bottles are heavier than cans and can significantly add to the overall weight when multiplied.
For example, a standard full 12 oz glass bottle of beer weighs about 1.17 pounds (0.53 kg or 530 grams). So a six-pack of these bottles would weigh about 7.02 pounds.
And 12 bottles of beer would weigh around 14.04 pounds. A 24-bottle case of beer would weigh a whopping 28.08 pounds!
How about the weight of a 16 oz beer bottle?
If you upsize to a 16 oz beer bottle, that weighs in at about 1.50 pounds (0.68 kg or 680 grams).
Another common bottle size is 16.9 oz which is the equivalent of 500 milliliters. That would work out to 1.56 pounds (0.71 kg or 710 grams).
So a 6-pack of these would weigh 9 and 9.36 pounds, respectively.
What factors can affect the weight of a beer can?
The actual weight of the beer can vary depending on the type of beer, density of the beer (how heavy it is), and the amount of beer in the can. The beer manufacturer and the packaging products used, like the size of the can and weight of the cans themselves, can also play a role.
So the next time you get ready to head over to your friend’s house for the big game, now you’ll know how much beer you can carry, whether it’s cans or bottles of beer.
