What is Hydro Flask?

A love of the outdoors was the catalyst for the founders of Hydro Flask. Founded in Bend, Oregon in 2009, the company bills itself as a sustainable, health-conscious brand for outdoor enthusiasts and those who live an active lifestyle.

Their first product helped set them apart. It was a vacuum-insulated, double-walled, stainless steel water bottle that could keep drinks really cold for 24 hours, and really hot for up to 12 hours. Essentially, they were great bottles to take on the go, especially for things like hikes or camping trips.

Since then, Hydro Flask’s product lineup using the innovative technology has expanded to include various types of water bottles, tumblers, cups, coolers, and more — available in a range of vibrant colors and various sizes.

Now the company sells its products in more than 20,000 retail locations around the world.

Are Hydro Flasks dishwashers safe?

With more than total 100 products, Hydro Flask aims to have a container to meet almost anyone’s beverage needs. Whether that’s keeping water, beer, or wine cold, or hot drinks like coffee or tea piping hot.

And while they’re easy to use and care for, not all of those containers can be cleaned in the same way.

So, can you wash a Hydro Flask in the dishwasher? The answer depends on which one you have.

A good rule of thumb to determine if your Hydro Flask is dishwasher safe is whether it has a powder coating. If it is, you can clean it in the dishwasher. And the best option is to place it on the top-rack, as it’s further away from the dishwasher’s heating element.

Here’s a list of the Hydro Flask products that are safe to clean in the dishwasher.

Other ways to clean a Hydro Flask bottle

If you don’t have a dishwasher or prefer to wash your Hydro Flask by hand, the best way to do it is to simply use warm soapy water. The company sells a bottle brush and straw/lid cleaning accessories.

Plus, it offers special cleaning tablets that require no scrubbing to use. You just fill your bottle with warm water, drop in a tablet, let it sit for about 30 minutes, then rinse out with cold water.

Can you put a Hydro Flask in the microwave?

Hydro Flask advises against using its products in a microwave. The water bottles, tumblers, and mugs are all made with 18/8 stainless steel. And generally, it’s a bad idea to microwave metal objects.

That’s because they work by passing microwaves through food, which is permeable. Solid metal objects, like a stainless steel Hydro Flask water bottle or tumbler, aren’t permeable. So instead of the waves passing through them, the bottles can absorb that energy and become overheated. That can lead to sparking or even fires.

FAQ

Are Hydro Flasks BPA free?

Yes, Hydro Flask water bottles, tumblers, mugs, growlers, and bottle accessories are all BPA-free.

Can Hydro Flasks rust?

Yes, while many of their products are made with stainless steel, they can still rust. To help remove rust, apply a mixture of baking soda and white vinegar to the affected areas and wait for about 10 minutes. Then scrub off the rust with a soft sponge or brush. Hydro Flask also offers a lifetime warranty which may cover your product if rust can’t be removed.

Are Hydro Flask lids dishwasher safe?

All the lids are safe to use in the top rack of the dishwasher. You can also wash them with warm dish soap and water or a Hydro Flask natural cleaning tablet.
