Ingredients

  • 4 slices of sandwich bread - whole grain white, sourdough, or whatever you love
  • 4 teaspoons salted butter softened so it spreads easily
  • 2 ounces sharp cheddar cheese for bold classic flavor
  • 2 ounces sharp white cheddar cheese for a creamy tangy twist

Instructions

  • Preheat the air fryer to 360°F for 4 minutes.
  • Spread softened butter on one side of each bread slice.
  • To assemble, place 1 ounce of each cheese type between two slices of bread, keeping the buttered sides facing out.
  • Air fry at 360°F for 3–5 minutes, until the tops are golden and crisp. Flip the sandwiches and cook for another 2–4 minutes, until the other side is browned and the cheese is fully melted.
  • Serve hot and enjoy right away.

Notes

Use any type of cheese that melts well, such as sharp cheddar, white cheddar, mozzarella, Monterey jack, pepper jack, provolone or American.
Medium thickness bread is best. Bread that’s sliced too thinly will dry out or burn in the air fryer. If you use a thick-cut bread you may have to add a few minutes to the cook time.
Check on the sandwiches often as they cook. The cook time will depend on the thickness and type of bread you use, and may also vary between air fryers.
