Ingredients

  • 1 ball homemade pizza dough or 1 pound store-bought pizza dough
  • ½ cup pizza sauce
  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ¾ cup canned artichoke hearts drained, patted dry, and coarsely chopped if large
  • ½ cup cremini or button mushrooms thinly sliced
  • cup sliced black olives
  • ½ cup thinly sliced red bell pepper
  • cup thinly sliced red onion
  • Fresh basil leaves small leaves left whole, large leaves thinly sliced or torn into smaller pieces
  • Red pepper flakes optional, for serving

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 500°F and position a rack one level above the bottom. Lightly grease a pizza steel or baking sheet with high-heat cooking spray or vegetable oil. (If using a pizza stone, sprinkle it lightly with cornmeal.)

Notes

On a lightly floured surface, stretch or roll the pizza dough into a 14-inch circle. Transfer it to the prepared pizza pan. If the edges extend beyond the pan, fold them inward slightly to create a thick, even crust.
